In October we celebrate Thanksgiving. Families come together, share a meal and reflect on all we have. Yet, approximately 10% of the Durham Region households and 34% of the single led households in Durham Region with children under the age of 18 are food insecure. That represents approximately 50, 000 residents.
Join us as Kathie Gayda from Feed the Need in Durham explains the role they have in helping those who are food insecure and how we as a community can help those in need. Following our speaker, we will have our BPW GTA District AGM.
Feed the Need in Durham (FTND) believes that food insecurity should not prevent anyone from fulfilling their potential or participating fully in the life of our community. Created 10 years ago to address a need to get healthy food out to those facing hunger in Durham, Feed the Need in Durham now has 62 members including food banks, shelters and in-school programs. We will take a look at how FTND is making an impact and how we are addressing the issue of food wastage.
