October 2018 – Dinner Meeting and GTA District AGM

In October we celebrate Thanksgiving. Families come together, share a meal and reflect on all we have. Yet, approximately 10% of the Durham Region households and 34% of the single led households in Durham Region with children under the age of 18 are food insecure. That represents approximately 50, 000 residents.

Join us as Kathie Gayda from Feed the Need in Durham explains the role they have in helping those who are food insecure and how we as a community can help those in need. Following our speaker, we will have our BPW GTA District AGM.

Feed the Need in Durham (FTND) believes that food insecurity should not prevent anyone from fulfilling their potential or participating fully in the life of our community. Created 10 years ago to address a need to get healthy food out to those facing hunger in Durham, Feed the Need in Durham now has 62 members including food banks, shelters and in-school programs. We will take a look at how FTND is making an impact and how we are addressing the issue of food wastage.

Kathie Gayda is a fundraising professional with over 25 years experience engaging donors and volunteers. As the Executive Director of the Brazilian Carnival Ball (one of Canada’s largest and most successful black-tie galas) Kathie led a team of volunteers to raise millions of dollars for health care, educational and cultural organizations in Toronto. A long time Ajax resident, Kathie joined the team at Feed the Need in Durham in July 2018 to help make a difference in her community.
